The Israelites have been captured, their cities destroyed and many of them taken as slaves to the city of Babylon. GOD ha punished them for their disobedience and sinful actions against GOD. Jeremiah has tried to warn them in different ways, yet they did not hear GOD’s word proclaimed through HIM.
In this situation, many of us who are fathers, would have turned our faces away from those who have turned against us especially, if they are our sons and daughters, who have decided to follow their evil ways. Yes, GOD does turn His face away from them, puts them through a very difficult period but assures them that He will never forsake them for they are His people.
The only action required by His people is in knowing their sins and seek His forgiveness. Jeremiah 30 and 31 describe how our GOD will lead His people back once they have accepted HIM again. Our GOD’s love is an everlasting love and we are His people. In spite of our many failures, He draws closer to us by speaking into our situations. GOD’s constant watch over us, is to keep us away from the evil one.
It is our lack of understanding of GOD’s purpose through us that makes us rush into the hands of evil desires and worldly pleasures, yet when we weep and seek forgiveness, He takes us back with a call to obey Him and love Him truthfully. GOD‘s leading in our lives happens only when we are ready to give up all our lives into His hands and not let our hearts wander with the world.
We are His people; we have accepted His Son and allowed the power of His Holy Spirit into our lives. We are the children of GOD; let us look away from the eyes of evil. Let us be ready and hopeful so that when GOD calls out with love saying “My People”, we will be among them.
