They are everywhere, sometimes in the open, sometimes hidden in the dark corners of the city. It could be easy to define a person as poor as we already have developed our own assumptions of poverty. There could be various forms of poverty and let us consider a few -:
- The ones born into a family of poverty , not because of his or her choice but because that is the way life has treated them
- The ones who have lost hope and faith and move into a life of depression and desolation.
- The ones who belong to the part of the world where having one meal a day is a miracle
- The ones who are separated from others due to colour,caste and creed
- The people of a war torn nation,seeking asylum and hope to rebuild their lives in a better nation.
- A family that has lost all sources of income due to the financial recession that they are going through .
- The ones who are poor in their heart because they live only for themselves and have never known the joy of giving.
There could be many more forms that you may be able to identify with, but the key factor here is that they need our help. The imbalances of society are created for us to do good so that those who have more will be able to give to the less. GOD's plan for the poor is evident through His WORD and it is that those who are blessed with more should share the message of love and hope through words and actions with those who have less.
"The Poor" will be a constant part of our society and GOD's mercy will be upon them, yet GOD's mercy needs channels to flow, channels that allows GOD's love to flow and restore the poor. Take a look at what GOD has provided you in talents, wealth and time , go forth and share these blessing with those who need it the most. Pray and understand what GOD would like you to do for the poor and go and work where He is present among the poor. Remember the poor are blessed and theirs is the kingdom of GOD (Luke 6:20) .Let us be poor in heart so that we can serve the poor in our world.
