He was tired from His journey and stopped by Jacob's well for a drink. He had to wait for someone to draw water for Him and along came the Samaritan women who belonged to a lower caste than He did.
He was not bothered about her caste and asked her for a drink and from there starts one of the most thought provoking conversations in the Gospel of John. You can read through the conversation in John 4 , however I would like us to look into something more powerful that stands out in this encounter.
The conversation was surely deep and probably tough for the Samaritan women to understand , in the beginning she address him as Master . A teacher or philosopher is what she considers him. As he tells her who she truly is and the nature of her life , she calls him a prophet. A person who prophesies over your life and can see who you are and where you are going.
Jesus then moves to the topic of worship and she is awe struck by the power of His words and realizes that He is the Messiah and is ready to follow him. Her journey starts from " I am not worthy to give you water" to " You are the Messiah", where are we on our journey?.
When Jesus strikes a conversation with us we sometimes tend to be silent . We keep him as a Master and then we do not move forward , we linger there to see what I can get more from the Master. He is still reaching out to us and wants us to speak and share with him , to know him more than a Master. He wants us to know him as a Prophet , Redeemer, Savior and the Messiah who is coming back .
Where are you stuck today , is He still a Master who you fear and obey , is He a still a Prophet like the many others who have come and gone through history or is He your Savior, Redeemer and Messiah. It is time to know him as your Messiah and for that you need be part of the conversation, start worshipping him in spirit and truth and start believing in His return. It is time to move Jesus from being your Master to being your Messiah.
