And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now. Hosea 2:7 KJV
How many lovers do we have? Lovers that keep coming into our lives, invited and uninvited, to take control of our minds and bodies so that we stay away from our one True Love. Wealth, Food, Fame, Clothes, Position, Power, Drugs, Sex, Pride, Lust, Selfies, and the list keeps growing bigger. So many lovers to keep us warm and yet we feel incomplete for they will never satisfy us, for we shall never be able to overtake them.
God speaks to Hosea from the depths of His love for His people and today He speaks to us, His people, through Hosea again. All that we have around us, all the lovers that make us proud, continue to call us with their call of comfort and yet we are not complete in them. We continue to run after them and that sort of brings a sadistic satisfaction in them, as they see our desperation for their acceptance and comfort, we forget that they will continue to provide a false impression of fulfillment. This pursuit will drain us, because, the vacuum in our hearts that should be filled with Jesus cannot be filled by anything else.
The time comes when we say to ourselves, we need to return, and we need to recheck our list of lovers, rework our priorities to see that our vacuums are filled by GOD and no one else. Thus …
- Prioritize - : Make a list of your lovers, their influence and power over you and see where Jesus fits in the list. Then take time to understand why you have so many lovers in your life who are not really satisfying you. You may need them but you need not depend on them. Prioritize and understand what really gives you peace. Work a plan to remove these lovers from your life, let them be there but show them you love them no more. Tell them you have only one True Love, His name is Jesus.
- Return - : In case Jesus is not there on your list, put Him back. Eventually as GOD says to Hosea, “she will return to her first husband” and so will we. The fact is to identify our first husband and be sure who He is. When we know it is Jesus, we need to return to Him, make Him the center of our lives, up hold Him as the foundation of our thoughts. This needs humility, repentance and faith in equal measure. Jesus will then help you manage the many intrusions/lovers in your lives. Prioritize your life and Return to Jesus and let Him be your one and only.
“Jesus, lover of my life
Take me, hold me a while
So I may live through Your Eyes
Teach me to be wise
In things I do through this life
So I may walk in Your Word”
